SupportedPlus is an NDIS registered disability service based in Corowa, Rutherglen, Howlong and surrounding districts.

Established in August 2018, our mission is to offer exceptional support services for people with a disability and their carers.

Our Support workers perform tasks in a manner that considers the health and safety of self and others; and ensure that participants are given continuous opportunities to make and own their decisions. While providing supports, workers will offer motivation, encouragement and ensure that our participants are accorded privacy, dignity and respect at all times.

Our Support Workers provide exceptional services within the participants’ home and community. Participants may have a range of needs relative to their disability. These may include: physical mobility, neurological conditions, cognitive, intellectual or psycho-social functioning, autism spectrum disorders, Asperger syndrome, Downs syndrome, acquired brain injury and mental health. Participants’ ages range from 17 to 67 yrs. 

All supports are provided flexibly across a span of days and/or hours. The support services are unique for each participant and cover one or more of the following areas: daily living, domestic assistance, relationships, capacity building, tenancy obligations, mentoring, social, community and civic participation, health and well-being, life skills, transport, supported holidays,  arts,  recreational, group based activities, personal care and meal preparation.

Successful candidate will be responsible for assisting individuals work towards their life goals, assisting with a variety of activities, routines and in the provision of personal hygiene if required.

This is a casual position and reports to the Director at SupportedPlus.

 

Position Description

Key objectives

  • To empower and support participants to lead an enriching and fulfilling life by providing individualised supports. 
  • The successful candidate will be required to undertake the following tasks:
  • Assisting with personal care needs
  • Providing care in home settings
  • Developing the participants’ daily living skills,
    Facilitating community access
    Promoting our participants’ independence and personal goals
    Assisting with other duties as specified on participants’ care plans. 

 

About you – Core competencies

  • Experience in caring for people with a disability.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with participants and their families which are based on trust in a caring and respectful manner.
  • Passionate about people and enthusiastic in assisting people to live independently within their community.
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to perform tasks as required.
  • Genuine commitment to the delivery of whole-person care while incorporating the principles of hope, compassion and empathy towards participants.
  • Capacity to recognise own feelings and those of others through self-reflection and awareness.
  • Respect the ethical beliefs and diversity of others by being culturally aware of individual values.
  • Embraces social inclusiveness as a strength and positively uses diversity to empower individuals.
  • Ability to remain calm under challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to undergo regular training in order to develop and expand your knowledge and understanding in regards to creating and working in a safe environment.
  • A commitment to make the interests of people their first judgement so as to provide the best possible outcome in service delivery.

 

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A minimum of Cert IV in Disability, Community Services, Mental Health or Cert III in Home & Community or Personal Care.
  • A proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • A demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to accept direction and work in solo environments.

 Mandatory

  • National Police Check (NPC) – successful applicants will be required to complete an NPC prior to commencement. People with criminal records are not automatically barred from applying for this job. Each application will be considered on it’s merits.
  • The Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme.
  • A valid and current Driver’s Licence and reliable roadworthy motor vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
  • A valid and current Working with Children Check.
  • Current Level 1 First Aid and CPR Certificate or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A mobile phone or device that has access to data.   

Desirable

  • Experience in providing personal care and improving people’s mental health
  • Candidates with life skills experience that are prepared to mentor others.
  • Candidates with qualifications and experience working within Aged Care will be favourably considered.

Physical Requirements

This position requires a basic level of physical fitness. Physical tasks may include reaching, bending, pushing, kneeling and lifting.
